The Ad Hominem Story

What is Ad Hominem?
Ad Hominem is a true innovation in menswear. Specialising in making bespoke accessible, affordable, fun and quick for the young professional, Ad Hominem has been carefully, and lovingly, designed to eliminate all the drawbacks of visiting Savile Row (traditionally the only place to have bespoke suits made).

Ad Hominem - The GirlsIt is a fully mobile bespoke tailoring company that comes to your office, or home, at whatever time you require to accommodate your demanding schedule. The company represents, and upholds, the very finest traditions of bespoke tailoring, whilst incorporating contemporary styling and unrivalled personal service for the modern man. Of utmost importance is to make our clients effortlessly comfortable and confident in their personal style; enabling them to fulfil their potential to look as good as they can. Our goal is to make our clients feel, and look, better than they could ever have imagined. The Ad Hominem service is very much a holistic service: giving men the confidence in their choices, and educating them about what suits them and learning how to put an outfit together.

How did it start?
On a flight from New York to Shanghai four years ago, co-owner and founder Claire Alexander had something of an epiphany. She was working for a multinational design agency specialising in mass market fashion (designing for the likes of Abercrombie & Fitch and Levis) when she realised she no longer wanted to work in “volume” fashion, but to work closely with clients on a one-to-one level. She recognised the movement in men’s fashion, where they were taking a new, much greater interest in their appearance, and starting to understand the importance of, and the pleasure in, dressing well. She realised there was a niche in London for a fully-mobile, and affordable, bespoke tailoring for young professional men whose needs were not being met by the traditional Savile Row service. She got off the plane in London and never made it to Shanghai.

Claire says, “I didn’t see why you had to wait until you were 45 years old and a CEO to be able to afford high quality, well designed, individually made garments. I was tired of seeing the standard of menswear that the high street churned out every season which was badly cut, made of poor quality fabric to a standard fit which quickly dates and falls apart after a few months wear”. Ad Hominem was born.

What Now?
In the years that it has been running, the Ad Hominem team have acquired an enviable reputation for the highest quality craftsmanship and exceptional personal service. They pride themselves on only acquiring the most talented, passionate and dedicated individuals to join them.  Ad Hominem is co-owned by Vicki Clark who works in the capacity of Creative Director. Her impressive background in the music industry includes planning and executing PR campaigns for the likes of James Blunt, Charlotte Church and Russell Brand, which makes her a valuable asset to the creative force behind the Ad Hominem brand.
